A Big List of Publications Including Ones That Pay For Your Writing

Whether you’ve written a story with us in one of our workshops and think it’s ready to go out, or you’ve conjured up something on your own, our list is meant to cut out the lengthy research so you have more time to write submission letters and queries. We’re not holding back. We love writing and if that’s what you love too, then you should send it out to the world. Our list can help.

We’ll keep this up to date as things arise, reading periods change, or we find other cool writing opportunities.

How to use the list

Once you have a piece polished up and ready to send out you can follow these steps and get the most out of our master list:

  1. Identify whether your piece is fiction / flash fiction (1,000 words or less) / nonfiction / etc. and keep your eye on publications that fit your piece.

  2. Check reading periods and eliminate publications that are irrelevant at the time of submission.

  3. Check for word count length and find the publications that fit your word count.

  4. Check publication tags to make sure you DO NOT submit to a publication outside your genre (general fiction / science fiction / fantasy / speculative fiction / romance / horror / comedy / children’s / etc.)

  5. Read the submission guidelines for the publications that fit your criteria above.

  6. Craft a short bio (cover letter) to go along with your submission.

  7. Submit to as many publications as you can (if they allow for simultaneous submissions).

Things to remember during the submission process

  • Reading/response time is lengthy with most publications. Be patient and if possible submit to more than one place if they allow for simultaneous submissions.

  • Your bio/cover letter should be brief and it’s preferred there is not any information about your story in the letter other than the title and word count. Editors would like the piece to speak for itself.

  • Follow the guidelines and make sure to meet any style requirements mentioned by the editors.
